TikTok Comments Not Showing? What to Check First

First, work out which comments are missing

If TikTok comments are not showing, check whether the problem affects one video, your own comments, or the whole app. These are different problems: a video owner can limit comments, moderation can hide an individual reply, and an app or connection problem can stop a comment section from loading.

Start by reopening the same public video, then try another video. If you can, compare the app with TikTok in a browser. A difference helps narrow the problem, but it does not prove that a comment was deleted or that your account was restricted.

• Every comment section is blank: start with the app and connection checks below.
• Only one video is affected: check whether comments are enabled and whether that video is still available.
• Only your comment is missing: consider filtering, review, or deletion.
• A reply is missing: expand its thread; replies are separate from the top-level comment list.

If TikTok comments will not load

1. Close and reopen TikTok, then check for an app update.
2. Test a different connection, such as switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
3. Try the same public video in a browser to see whether the problem is specific to the app.
4. If the problem persists, use TikTok’s in-app troubleshooting and report the affected video and what you tried.

Clearing the app cache can be a troubleshooting step, but it cannot restore a deleted comment or override a creator’s comment settings. Avoid repeatedly reposting the same comment while testing; it makes it harder to tell which version you are looking for. If comments disappear on your own video

Review your comment permissions and filters. TikTok provides controls for who can comment, filtering spam or selected keywords, and reviewing filtered comments. Some settings and features vary by account.

In TikTok, open your profile menu, then Settings and privacy → Privacy → Comments. Review the filters you have enabled and the filtered comments awaiting a decision. Also inspect the individual video’s comment settings. See TikTok’s comment management instructions before changing permissions.

If someone tells you their reply vanished, ask for the exact video and approximate time. A count on the video is not enough to identify which comment is missing.

If your comment is missing from someone else’s video

The video owner’s settings may affect visibility, and comments can be removed. A comment appearing for you does not establish that everyone else can see it. Equally, one missing comment is not proof of a “shadowban.” Check the exact video and thread before drawing a conclusion.

If the comment is buried, search the available conversation

When comments load but a thread is too large to browse, use the TikTok comment finder with that public video’s full link. Retrieve the available comments and replies, then try a distinctive word or phrase.

For a known author, use TikTok username search: choose Username and enter the exact handle, with or without @. A display name, a mention in someone else’s comment, and an author handle are different things. Username mode matches only returned author handles.

This searches one video within the retrieval limit. It cannot recover private, deleted, hidden, or otherwise unavailable comments. Trying another filter after retrieval uses no additional credits, but retrieving more comments is a separate request.

What does a zero-result search mean?

It means no returned comment matched your filter. Check the spelling, clear the filter, review how many comments were retrieved, and check whether author handles were available. For text search, try a shorter distinctive phrase. For username search, use the handle rather than the display name.

If the comment still does not appear, the tool cannot establish whether it was deleted, filtered, outside the retrieval limit, or simply not returned. Keep that uncertainty separate from a claim about the author’s activity. The comment search guide explains how to work through these cases.
